Personally, I would recommend buying all of the expansion DLC except perhaps Leviathan and playing the game in patch 1.30.6 at the moment. Most of the issues will be addressed in future patches, the unfortunate truth is this is fairly common with new updates for any paradox games, but are usually fixed within a month or two, however they allow you to play older versions of the game. I can't speak if the Leviathan DLC is any good since I don't have it, but generally most of the content is playable without DLC, you will loose certain mechanics or events if you don't have the DLC however.Ĭurrently the game does have several bugs they are working out, and some balancing issues that still need to be addressed. If you buying them through steam, most packages will not charge for DLC you already own, so you won't loose to much money buying a smaller package first and getting a larger pack later. I would recommend buying the introduction bundle if your wanting to just by some DLC right off the bat. Eu4 isn't 'historically accurate' and it shouldn't attempt to be exactly so, but I should understand what idea/trend/event in history each mechanic is meant to represent and agree roughly that the mechanic portrays the history and monuments just aren't compatible with this in any way I've been able to reason.Art of War is one of the better DLC, However if you do get into the game, the DLC will be on sale frequently, so I would wait for a sale before getting any of them. As it is I am led to believe that, for instance, that every heathen in the world is happy to surrender more land in peace deals just because I own some nice fort in Malta. I could get behind the idea of paying for military academies for officers or better administrative facilities, but these shouldn't be culture-locked and should require upkeep.
